PUBLIC SERVICE SPORTS AND FAMILY DAY 2012
Date: 27-10-2012
Venue: MARINA BARRAGE
Closing Date: 12-10-2012
A buffet of exciting activities awaited 2800 participants who turned up at the Marina Barrage in the sun-soaked Saturday morning of 27 Oct 2012. It was jam-packed with entertainment including stilt walkers, caricature artists and jugglers for everyone. At 8am, a powerful trio led a lively mass warm-up onstage followed by a healthy lifestyle 5km walk to Marina Bay to start the day. Many found the walk to be very interesting as it passed through the newly completed Gardens by the Bay (Bay South). While families took part in kite-flying and a family amazing race, tough-looking dragonboat teams were revved up and ready to race. As Guest-of-Honour Mr Peter Ong, Head of Civil Service and President, Civil Service Club sounded the horn; teams furiously rowed, pitting against each other while the drumbeats, boats and intense solidarity created a colourful spectacle by the Marina Reservoir. Kudos goes to the winners: MHA (Police) and MND in the men and women’s categories respectively! “It was a satisfying week of intensive training filled with crunches and stamina-building drills” for dragonboaters like Ms Jackie Ng, captain of MHA team, who “urged the Club to organise more of such activities.” Then, cheers were heard as teams from six different government agencies competed in a telematch. Participants were immersed in multi-legged painting, an over-the-wall contest and a match of flour blowing and puzzle solving; games that boosted teamwork and communication. The MHA (Prisons) team won amidst joyous cheers. Throughout the event, participants were enraptured by a hilarious Moe Alkaff as the emcee through stage games that even made volunteers dance to ‘Gangnam Style’! Kids also enjoyed balloon wall climbing, an art contest and more. It was a perfect day of thrills, spills and wholesome fun that ended with a loud bang from music produced by samba drummers.
