INTRODUCTION CIVIL SERVICE CLUB 01

FROM Dear fellow members and friends,

Time passes so quickly when we are busy! I am sure many of us are looking forward to the December
THE school holidays and the year-end festivities ahead. This is also perhaps a time to refect on what we
have done and what we have yet to do. Kudos to those who have accomplished the goals that they
set earlier in the year. For those who have yet to realise the goals, as long as you stay focused and
GMS determined, I am sure the goals that you have set will be successfully accomplished.
For the Club, the past six months have been challenging but also fulflling. The Club upgraded the
Corporate Services Offce; the reception offce and lobby of Tessensohn Clubhouse; Planet and
DESK Westwood Bowl; the Tree-houses and Treasure Cove of Bukit Batok Clubhouse; and the function rooms
of both Clubhouses. While it is still early days yet, the money spent on these upgrading appears to
be well spent. We have seen an increase in the usage of these facilities by our members, their guests
and public offcers. The Club has also received positive feedback from our members on this upgrading.
We have seen an increase in the participation rate for our social activities, which have increased in both
number and diversity. For the past six months, participation in our social activities by both members
and public offcers increased by 7% and 426% respectively. The Club will continue to explore with our
partners to add more interesting and good value social activities for our members.

As an added bonus arising from the upgrading of our facilities and the increase in the number of social
activities organised, the club membership has increased by more than 5% for this FY alone. We hope
to achieve our 30,000 principal ordinary members by the end of FY 2013/14.
We had organised a range of exciting activities in the Club over the past two months. Some highlights
include the Mid-Autumn Festival held at Bukit Batok Clubhouse on 20 September 2013, which drew
participation from more than 550 children and their parents. The Oktoberfest, a new event this year,
was held at the poolside of Tessensohn Clubhouse on 4 October 2013 and drew a crowd of more
than 80 diners. The various cooking classes and demonstrations by renowned local chefs held at the
Charlie Ng cooking studio also captivated many appreciative audiences. The Public Service Family and Sports
General Manager, CSC Day held at Marina Barrage on the morning of 26 October 2013 also had a turnout of more than 4,000
members, public offcers and their family members. The semi-fnals of the Singing Star were held at
the Tessensohn Auditorium on the 26 October 2013, afternoon. There were 21 crooners belting it out
for the top 3 placing of Pop Idol & Evergreen category in the fnal. The fnal will be held at Tessensohn
Clubhouse, Qian Xi Restaurant on 15 November 2013. Do check this event out, as it is held in conjunction
with our Wine & Dine event.

WE HAVE SEEN AN INCREASE IN THE PARTICIPATION RATE
FOR OUR SOCIAL ACTIVITIES, WHICH HAVE INCREASED
IN BOTH NUMBER AND DIVERSITY. FOR THE PAST SIX
MONTHS, PARTICIPATION IN OUR SOCIAL ACTIVITIES BY
BOTH MEMBERS AND PUBLIC OFFICERS INCREASED BY 7%
AND 426% RESPECTIVELY. THE CLUB WILL CONTINUE TO
EXPLORE WITH OUR PARTNERS TO ADD MORE INTERESTING
AND GOOD VALUE SOCIAL ACTIVITIES FOR OUR MEMBERS.

The coming attractions for the next few months will not only offer entertainment but will also be at
a great value as the Club will be subsidising these for your beneft. The Christmas Childrens Party, to
be held on 14 December 2013, is always very well patronised. There will be door gifts, game prizes, fun
activities, guest performances and lucky draws. Of course taking a photo with Santa is also included
(please check out the details on page 29). The Year End Count down Party will be more entertaining
and exciting with more stage performances. The dinner, door gifts and table draw will prove to be more
than worth the ticket cost. The tickets are going fast, so do not hesitate and obtain your tickets early.
The Lunar New Year Bazaar, to be held at Tessensohn Clubhouse on 18 January 2014, will also be worth
attending. There will be stalls selling festive goodies, entertainment and cooking demonstrations by
renowned local chefs. The annual lucky draw will come with prizes totalling over than $20,000. This
is to thank our members for their support in participating in our Clubs activities.
I wish to inform our members and public offcers that we have reluctantly terminated Kresics
Gym Pte Ltd from renting Bukit Batok Clubhouse to operate its gym activities with effect from
16 October 2013. This is due to issues with their tenancy. In the interim, the Club will operate the gym
and gym members can continue to use the gym till 15 November 2013. Any members and public offcers
who are affected by the termination of the gym operator are advised to get in touch with the staff
of Bukit Batok Clubhouse. They can be contacted at either 6513 7485 or 6513 7493. Alternatively, gym
members can visit the gym and leave their contact numbers, and email addresses to the staff on duty
at the gym reception. Once the administrative details are resolved, the Club will inform our members
of the new arrangement.

Finally, I wish our members a belated Hari Raya Haji, Happy Deepavali, a Joyous Christmas and a great
year ahead!
