Juggling back-to-back meetings and endless screen time — even on weekends — has become the norm for many parents. But while you may not always notice, your child likely does. The encouraging part is that you don’t need a major lifestyle overhaul to make a difference. Just like parenting, movement is about showing up, being present and putting in the effort — even on the busiest days. Here’s how you can reclaim quality time, strengthen family bonds and stay active together with your child.

Family-first spaces you can count on

The Club is proud to be recognised as a Made for Families location — a national initiative by the National Population and Talent Division in the Strategy Group, Prime Minister’s Office that assures families of strong support from both the government and community. Whether you’re looking for water playgrounds, sports courts, fitness classes or family-friendly events, CSC clubhouses offer welcoming, well-equipped environments that make it easier to bond and stay active together.

You can also explore family fitness facilities at our affiliate club, HomeTeamNS.

Make exercise feel like play, not a task

Structured workouts like gym reps or swimming laps may suit adults with established fitness habits — but for kids, movement is more meaningful when it’s fun. Young children thrive on short, energetic bursts of activity that feel like play, not exercise.

Try animal-inspired moves like crab walks, bunny hops or bear crawls — these silly actions don’t just spark giggles, they help improve coordination and build gross motor skills. Create a high-energy playlist and turn your living room into a dance floor for a spontaneous cardio session. When the sun’s out, head to the water park-style pool at CSC @ Bukit Batok, where features like the wave pool, water slide and drift pool make staying active a splashy adventure.

Turn exercise into a game

If pulling your kids away from their screens feels like a daily battle, try speaking their language — by gamifying your workouts. Turning fitness into play doesn’t just make it more fun; it boosts motivation for both kids and adults.

Challenge each other with mini contests like who can do the most star jumps or push-ups, or play a round of ‘Follow the Leader’ with creative, silly moves. Let your children take the lead by designing a home obstacle course using sofa cushions, stools or chairs — though fair warning: they’ll probably zip through it faster than you!

For more structured fun, rent a tennis, basketball or badminton court at CSC and enjoy an hour of sporty family bonding, no game console required.

Learn something new together

Trying a new sport or activity as a family isn’t just exciting — it also shows your kids that learning never stops. When children see their parents stepping out of their comfort zones, they’re more likely to do the same.

Consider picking up a new skill as a team. At CSC @ Tessensohn, monthly badminton classes are available for both adults and youth, making it a great shared hobby to practise together. If no one in your family swims yet, now’s a good time to start — swimming lessons for all ages are available at CSC @ Tessensohn, while CSC @ Changi offers classes specially designed for little ones.

Set achievable goals as a family

Working towards a shared goal can bring families closer — and fitness is a great way to do it.

Start small with playful objectives, like spotting four different flower colours during a post-dinner stroll along your neighbourhood park connector. Or take on a more physical challenge, such as learning to hold a plank for 30 seconds. Use pedometers or phone apps to track your steps during weekend walks and gradually increase the target. Goal-setting not only boosts motivation, but it also gives your kids a sense of accomplishment.

You can also join family-friendly events like CSC Cycle or fun walks, which offer a festive vibe — and sometimes freebies — for completing the challenge together.

When you reach your goal, celebrate it! Book a CSC chalet for a weekend staycation or head out for a family bowling session at Westwood Bowl, Planet Bowl, and Gallop Bowl. It’s the perfect way to reward your efforts and keep the bonding going.

Be a partner, not a drill sergeant

No one likes being told what to do all the time — and that includes your kids. Instead of nagging them to join in, try weaving their interests into the family’s fitness plans, or give them the freedom to choose what kind of activity they’d enjoy.

If they’re into action heroes, let them pick a martial arts class at CSC. Got a K-pop fan at home? They might gravitate towards a K-pop dance class or even Zumba for its upbeat, music-driven energy. The key is to hand them the reins — letting kids have a say builds ownership and motivation.

Once you’re doing the activity together, don’t sweat the technique. Skip the constant pointers and let the moment be fun. Exercise should be about joy and connection, not pressure. With the right approach, family workouts can become something everyone looks forward to — a way to grow stronger together in both body and bond.
